Planting Instructions: The Deodar Cedar Tree doesn’t need much to thrive, but it’s important to choose a full sun area with well-drained soil for planting.
When it’s time to plant, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your Deodar’s root ball. After placing the tree, back fill its soil, tamp down the soil to avoid air pockets and lastly, water to help establish its roots.
Watering: Though it’s drought tolerant, the Deodar Cedar Tree needs regular waterings during the first few growing seasons for establishment. Typically, this means watering your tree thoroughly about once a week. If you’re not sure when to water, simply check the surrounding soil down to around 2 or 3 inches. If it’s dry, it’s time to water.
Once your Deodar is established, you may reduce watering frequency.
Fertilizing: Feed your Deodar Cedar Tree with a general-purpose fertilizer for best results, before new growth begins during springtime.
Pruning: Extensive pruning isn’t necessary when it comes to the Deodar Cedar Tree, but we do recommend removing dead or diseased branches during winter.
