Planting & Care
Though the Majesty Palm is a relatively low-maintenance plant, it will need proper care. Your Majesty Palm thrives in bright, indirect light with some shade. Without proper lighting, the fronds of your new plant will turn yellow.
It grows in USDA zones 9-11 outdoors and can grow indoors year-round, provided it receives enough moisture and humidity. A humidifier is recommended for indoor areas that are lacking in humidity.
Your new Majesty Palm needs plenty of space to thrive. To avoid overcrowding your plant, ensure that you repot it regularly, approximately every other year. Increase the pot size by 2 inches each time you repot to accommodate new growth. It’s time to repot your plant once you start seeing the root emerge from the top of the soil.
One of the best spots indoors to keep your Majesty Palm is a bathroom corner or office with a large window. Bright light and abundant moisture are essential for the Majesty Palm to thrive.
It’s vital to keep your Majesty Palm well-watered and moist. Unlike many other palms, the Majesty Palm is not drought tolerant and is native to wet areas. Mist your Majesty Palm daily in addition to regular watering – this ensures that its native humid climate is simulated in your home.
During warmer months, your Majesty Palm will need to be watered every two days to prevent the soil from drying out. Allow 10-15 minutes for the water to fully drain from your pot after watering to avoid oversaturation.
If fronds begin to yellow, it could be a sign of overwatering. If you see yellowed fronds, allow time for the soil to dry before watering your plant again. Browning fronds, however, mean that your Majesty Palm is not getting enough water and needs more.
Pruning your Majesty Palm indoors is ultra-easy. Cut away any fronds as they turn yellow or brown. This improves the look of your plant and creates a clean space for healthier green fronds to grow.
Protect your Majesty Palm from pests by keeping an eye out for indoor invaders. Though the indoor Majesty Palm is relatively resistant when it comes to pests, it’s important to monitor your plant. Good humidity keeps spider mites at bay, as well as misting your plant with water regularly. You can also wipe the undersides of the Majesty Palm’s leaves with a moist rag to ensure spider mites stay away.
