Avoid Expensive Market Trips with Home-Grown Anise

Why Star Anise Plants?

Forget expensive trips to the supermarket for exotic spices. With our Star Anise Plant, you’ll have fresh anise from your backyard, perfect for making chai teas, desserts, and your favorite restaurant-quality recipes from the Far East.

Plus, despite its unique flavor and opulent appearance, it’s virtually carefree. It’s an evergreen member of the magnolia family that thrives in warm, humid conditions, so it’s easy to plant. Simply give your Star Anise a bit of sun and water, and watch it take off...rewarding you with one-of-a-kind flavor and a large harvest of fresh Star Anise in just a few seasons.

Pleasantly aromatic yellow blooms against a backdrop of vibrant green leaves attract beetles to pollinate your plant. A licorice scent emerges from your eye-catching tree, lending extra visual interest to your home-grown bounty.

Pollination Info

Star Anise Plant Pollination

Star Anise Plants are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Star Anise Plant will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: First, find an area with full sun (6 to 8 hours of sunlight) and well-drained soil. Once you’ve selected a location, dig a hole that’s around twice the size of your plant’s root ball and just as deep. Then, place the Star Anise Plant, tamp down the soil and water to settle the roots.

If you live in a colder climate, plant your Anise in a container to bring inside during the winter. Select a container that’s about twice the width of your plant’s shipped pot and ensure it has drainage holes. Once you’ve planted, place your Anise Plant in front of a sunny window, preferably one that’s South-facing.

2. Watering: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Generally, it’s ideal to check your soil about 3 inches down for dryness. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water. Misting your Anise is also beneficial as it loves humidity.

3. Fertilizing: Feed your Star Anise every couple of months with compost tea or a fertilizer recommended for root crops.

4. Harvesting: Pick your green fruit before it can ripen and dry it until it resembles a hard, nut-brown seed. You’ll find anywhere from six to ten points on each Anise, which will contain a single seed.

Star Anise plant

The tree arrived 4 days after I ordered it. The tree was in good condition but needed watering. The tree has been moved to its planned location after a week in the shade.

Wonderful quality!

The Chinese star anise I received was the biggest I've ever seen! hardly any leaves were browned or damaged, only a little browning was on the tips of some leaves. The cardboard cover over the soil kept it from flying out, I could tell the box had been turned roughly but the cardboard soil cover kept the plant safe and the dirt inside the pot. My plant was wrapped in large brown paper to protect it from moving around, it was not soiled and still very fresh by the time it arrived. I watched for my order to arrive to grab it within the hour it arrived. It has grown 2 inches or so since its arrival and is in great shape, no leaves have dropped yet either. Thank you very much for having this species of Chinese star anise available! It's hard to find as of recent. I would love to purchase more plants in the future.

A MUST HAVE rare Exotic tree

The tree was shipped in great condition. For an exotic tree I wasn't expecting to get such a large plant for a 1 Gallon pot. I've been looking for this plant for ages and kept on bumping into look alike or non edible versions of the plant and the usual exotic plant sites and nurseries I go to didn't have this plant for me to have fresh Pho spices from my backyard, Thanks to Fast Growing Trees. I finally have it and it exceeded my expectations. Cross my fingers to see it make spices one day. Star Anise Plant Review
