Avoid Expensive Market Trips with Home-Grown Anise
Why Star Anise Plants?
Forget expensive trips to the supermarket for exotic spices. With our Star Anise Plant, you’ll have fresh anise from your backyard, perfect for making chai teas, desserts, and your favorite restaurant-quality recipes from the Far East.
Plus, despite its unique flavor and opulent appearance, it’s virtually carefree. It’s an evergreen member of the magnolia family that thrives in warm, humid conditions, so it’s easy to plant. Simply give your Star Anise a bit of sun and water, and watch it take off...rewarding you with one-of-a-kind flavor and a large harvest of fresh Star Anise in just a few seasons.
Pleasantly aromatic yellow blooms against a backdrop of vibrant green leaves attract beetles to pollinate your plant. A licorice scent emerges from your eye-catching tree, lending extra visual interest to your home-grown bounty.

Pollination Info
Star Anise Plant Pollination
Star Anise Plants are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Star Anise Plant will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Planting & Care
If you live in a colder climate, plant your Anise in a container to bring inside during the winter. Select a container that’s about twice the width of your plant’s shipped pot and ensure it has drainage holes. Once you’ve planted, place your Anise Plant in front of a sunny window, preferably one that’s South-facing.
2. Watering: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Generally, it’s ideal to check your soil about 3 inches down for dryness. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water. Misting your Anise is also beneficial as it loves humidity.
3. Fertilizing: Feed your Star Anise every couple of months with compost tea or a fertilizer recommended for root crops.
4. Harvesting: Pick your green fruit before it can ripen and dry it until it resembles a hard, nut-brown seed. You’ll find anywhere from six to ten points on each Anise, which will contain a single seed.
