The Best Cold Hardy Palm
Why Windmill Palm Trees?
Thanks to this fresh variety, the Palm isn't relegated to only tropical locales. Because the Windmill Palm is one of the most cold hardy palms available on the market today, it's a dream come true for those who want island-inspired good looks in colder climates.
Northern gardening climates, even in growing zone 7, are still able to grow this stunning island beauty. And not only is Windmill Palm cold tolerant, but it's also unbelievably low-maintenance and naturally pest resistant, too.
Plus, it's got the good looks to match its effortless ease. Magnificent in stature, the Windmill Palm has fresh, fan-like fronds that are arranged symmetrically in a bunched group. This forms a crown of stunning green foliage that grows atop the trunk and can grow 6 to 10 feet wide.

Windmill Palm Tree
I must say that I was very impressed by the plants I ordered online as well as the packing used to send them. The plants arrived in excellent condition. The plants included little pots as well as instructions on growing them. I will definitely order from Fast-Growing-Trees.com Fast Growing Trees.
The palms arrived alive and well. I planted them and they are doing great!!!
The Four windmill palms are beautiful, bright green plants, and appear to be very healthy. The Turkey fig has put out a lot of new leaves and I think it’ll be a great addition to my yard. Unfortunately, the free Japanese Red Maple was chewed up on my front porch by one mean raccoon!
Great experience with Fast Growing Trees, as usual! I have purchased many of these over the years and since figuring out how to best winter a windmill palm in Maryland, I have been very successful. I have successfully made it through 4 winters by covering the palms with white 55-gallon plastic drums each fall before frost with a 60 watt light bulb inside of each drum. I have the lights on a timer so they are only on when needed, depending on temperatures. I leave them on 24/7 when extremely cold. The trees can still get some sunlight through the white drums and seem to get just enough moisture from the surrounding soil and the condensation from the heat the lights create. I lost one last summer, I think it was over watered. Nice trees if you spend time catering to them in colder climates!!

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Choose a spot that will offer your Windmill Palm Tree partial sunlight. Direct sunlight is fine, but partial is optimal because it will enable soil to maintain adequate moisture to promote better growth (4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day). The chosen location should also provide sufficient protection against cold winds. Make sure the soil in the planting area drains well.
When you're ready to plant, dig the hole wide enough so that it can encompass the entire root spread without bending any of the roots. Add some extra width to the hole to enable the tree to grow more easily, breaking away any compacted soil on the sides.
Gently place the tree in the center of the hole, maintaining an upright position while carefully spreading the roots. Begin filling in the hole with soil covering the roots. Lightly tamp down the soil then water the area to help the soil settle around the roots. Add more soil as necessary, repeating the process of patting it down slightly and watering to help the soil settle and fill any air holes that may have formed.
2. Watering: Water your Windmill Palm every other day for the first three months, then once a week for the remainder of the first year after planting. Watering after the first year depends upon the moisture retention in the planting area. Make sure the soil remains moist but not soggy. Warm summers may require more frequent watering, sometimes as much as twice weekly. It’s best to monitor the watering requirements during hot, dry periods.
3. Fertilizing: Windmill Palms require soil rich in nutrients. If necessary, apply a slow-release, palm specific fertilizer (granule form or spikes) in the spring, summer and fall.
4. Pruning: Palms do not need much pruning, except to remove damaged fronds. Always remove any damaged fronds by pruning them off with a sharp pair of sterilized pruners.
Estimated Shipping Time: Most orders ship immediately, however we are currently experiencing delays and could take up to 7-10 days from date of purchase. As noted on the website, some items are seasonal, and may only ship in spring or fall. Once your order is shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking number.
