Just what the doctor ordered!
Admittedly I've had the tree less than a month, but to date I've been very pleased with the speed of shipment and even more thrilled by the healthy, 6' tall tree I found after opening the shipping box. I got it planted within a couple of days of arrival and I can't wait to watch it grow! Local nurseries didn't carry this particular Maple, and what they did have was much, much more expensive and looked no better than the tree I received.
Tree arrived well packaged and in good shape. We planted it immediately and kept it watered. Seems to be taking but now it is Fall so will have to wait until Spring to see of it has taken.
I bought 4 trees 2 of them look like dead there are a joke a costumer service representative ask me to wait a month to see if there actually dead if they don't come back they promise to replace them. We'll see if they actually accomplish the promise.
They looked good on arrival. We planted them and they still look good. I expect to order more trees in 2019 and hope they perform as well as these two autumn blaze maples have so far.
20 feet after 2 years
11/23/2018 We received our tree in good condition 3/2016. It was about 5 foot tall. Today it is about 20 ft at highest point and really pretty. Very easy to grow. We just had Hurricane Micheal come through and had to secure it pretty good and it survived winds of 65 mph. Very happy with our tree. Beautiful color for Florida where we don't get much change of color in our trees. You can see the other trees in the background of our picture.
Planting & Care
The Autumn Blaze Maple tree is a popular shade and ornamental tree that provides the adaptability of the Silver Maple with the beauty and strength of the Red Maple. In the fall the Autumn Blaze Maple has a vivid display of bright red color that is the best of any tree in north Texas. The Autumn Blaze Maple also has winter interest because the new branch growth retains a red color after the leaves drop. Autumn Blaze maple trees are deciduous trees. At maturity, Autumn Blaze maples will reach about 50 feet tall by 40 feet wide. Their fast-growing nature is one of their best qualities.
With back-to-back “Urban Tree of the Year” awards in 2003 and 2004, the Autumn Blaze Maple has proven to be a popular choice of tree. As with other trees deemed suitable for urban areas, they can adapt to a wide range of soil conditions and are insect-resistant, pollution-resistant and disease-resistant. Due to their vigorous rates of growth, they often the decided choice over Maple Reds as they take the shape of their tree much quicker and offer almost immediate scenery.
Seasonal Information: Autumn Blaze Maples do exceptionally well in fall when their foliage is most vibrant but will provide shade and splendor all year round.
Selecting a location: Allow lots of room for your Autumn Blaze Maple to grow. These are fast growing and very large, up to 40-60 feet tall when they mature, so leave lots of room.
1) Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball.
2) Place the Autumn Blaze Maple inside, holding it straight and cover with soil. Tamp down as you fill to avoid any air pockets from forming.
3) Water the planting site and cover with mulch to conserve soil moisture.
Watering: Rainwater should be enough but in times of drought, or heat you may want to add a little extra watering to your usual routine. Try to mimic it’s natural habitat and overcome your urge to water too much.
Fertilization: Autumn Blaze Maples typically do best when nitrogen levels are high; therefore, look for fertilizer bags that have high first numbers, such as 16-4-8 or 12-4-8 formula combinations.
Pests and Disease: Most of the pests are common garden pests and can be controlled accordingly. Monitor your Autumn Blaze Maples tree trunk for sign of disease. Any growths, or discoloration may be cause for concern but most diseases are easily treatable.
Pruning: Thin out young plants to 3-4 main branches. After blooming in spring, clip the tips of the branches. Make the cut just above the point where a pair of leaves attaches to the stem. Sterilize your cutting tools with rubbing alcohol to ensure a clean cut.
Pollination: The flowers of the Autumn Blaze Maple contain both male and female parts instead of separate female and male parts of individual trees. Autumn Blaze Maples are deciduous trees, and propagate by seeds, which have wings. The seeds fall, spinning toward the ground like a helicopter.
