Indiana residents are proud of their Hoosier State residential landscapes and they are often looking for fast-growing trees that will quickly provide them dense shade during the summertime. Which trees you choose to plant in Indiana will depend on where you live – the Great Lakes Plains, the Till Plains or the Southern Plains and Lowlands.
The Best Trees for Planting in Indiana
Good considerations for tree choices in IND will always include species that are highly adaptable to the unique climate of the varied hardiness zones; trees that can thrive in zones 5 and 6 and can handle the variation in temperatures between the northern and southern regions. At fast Growing Trees Nursery, we can help you find trees and shrubs that will easily adapt to your Indiana environment.
We know you want fast-growing trees that are hardy. If you live in Indiana’s cooler northern regions, consider the popular Hybrid Poplar, the disease-resistant Chinese Chestnut or the low maintenance Sourwood Tree or the easy to grow Sawtooth Oak.
If you’re looking for a tree that will grow quickly to provide dense shade, the American Beech is a winner, as are its compatriots the American Sycamore, American Elm and the Sweetbay Magnolia.
To add more shade with a living screen, plant a row of our Thuja Giant or Leyland Cypress evergreens. They both grow quickly to form a uniform, living green wall. They are easy to grow and disease resistant. For small but equally effective boundary screens, consider non-invasive Black Bamboo or the variegated Soft Touch Holly.
A Large Variety of Trees for Illinois
Indiana’s state tree is the Yellow Polar, also known as the Tulip Tree. This tree has reddish-brown twigs with light green four-lobed leaves. Its bark is light gray and it grows up to 70-90 feet in height.
The Indiana state soil is Miami. This is a fairly well-drained soil that is comprised of a fine, loamy mix. It is used mostly for growing winter wheat, corn or soybeans. Miami is a highly productive soil and is good for growing trees and shrubs.
Verdant Indiana landscapes are usually a mixture of different types of hardy shade trees and flowering trees that grow well in the Hoosier State, as well as evergreen and fruit trees. Trees that adapt to the soil type in your specific region of Indiana are always the best choice for an eye-catching and easy to maintain the landscape.
