Prune It Your Way! The Adaptable Podocarpus
The Podocarpus is a low-maintenance plant with soft, green foliage and hardy nature. Easily pruned, you can decide whether it will grow as a large shrub or a small tree! Amongst the foliage, the plant also produces blue female cones that turn into blue berries that attract birds in the summer.
Part of the Podocarpus genus, it’s often mistaken for a yew due to its needle-like leaves, berries, and name. The Podocarpus is a highly adaptable tree that can survive many conditions and requires minimal maintenance.
Perhaps the most significant feature of the Podocarpus is how naturally it takes to pruning. Most gardeners grow the plant as a hedge, thanks to its dense growth. It works well as a windbreak, privacy hedge, and border between properties.
The Podocarpus also works well in containers and small spaces as a tall accent, since it has a narrow root system. If left untrimmed, the plant naturally has a pointed shape and upright branch growth. With enough room, it can even appear spruce-like.
What is a Jumbo Podocarpus Shrub?
Jumbo shrubs are the most mature shrubs offered at Fast Growing Trees. Thanks to their well-developed root systems and large container size, they provide excellent drought resistance and improved nutrient absorption. Jumbos are ideal for creating immediate privacy and adding fullness to your garden beds without the wait.
Grown in limited quantities, Jumbo shrubs are perfect for homeowners who want fast results and a lasting impression in their landscape.
The Podocarpus was hand-selected and cultivated by our team of plant experts, and you can expect a hardy, beautiful plant ready for planting. Order your Podocarpus today!

They a strong and green.
I was scared they’d die. I tried to start and additional 6 some years ago and they all died. Got the nerve again this year since I was starting them so early I. The spring and I went with fastgrowingtrees cause I figured if they died I could try again by having them replaced. Great news! We are a couple of weeks out and they look marvelous! Just as great, if not better than when I unboxed them. Not a single sign of distress. I’m very optimistic.
