Fragrant White Blooms Meet Compact Growth
Why Summersweet Clethra Shrubs?
Also known as Hummingbird Summersweet, this shrub produces fragrant, white blooms that merge with the promise of richly-hued green growth, delivering contrast that's second to none. And this deciduous favorite lives up to its name, attracting graceful wildlife that gives you the most elegant yard on the block.
From mixed borders along your driveway to perennial plantings in your flower beds, the Summersweet stands out...even in wet, swamp-like areas. Unlike similar ornamental varieties, the Summersweet stands up to tough conditions, thriving in a compact growth habit that's well-suited to tight spaces, poor soil conditions and even cold fronts down to -20 degrees. That means you get summertime flowers and vivid autumnal colors for a show that lasts nearly year-round.

Planting & Care
2. Watering: Water your new Hummingbird Summersweet regularly and deeply during its first growing season to help establishment, approximately once weekly. If you’re not sure when to water and how much watering your tree needs, simply check the soil. If the soil is dry down to around 2 or 3 inches, it’s time to water.
3. Fertilizing: If you want to bolster your Summersweet's growth, apply slow-release, well-balanced fertilizer before new growth begins in the spring.
4. Pruning: Pruning isn’t required, but if you’d like to shape your Summersweet, simply do so a few times a year, or however often is necessary to shape.
You can still order, but due to cold weather, we have delayed shipping to the areas shaded on the map below. We want your new plant to thrive right out of the box, so we will wait on shipping your order until the weather is ideal. This includes anyone in

Very pleased overall, transplant shock was minimal. Received in damaged condition with a couple of primary stems broken. Planted immediately with root stimulator and I’m seeing a happy shrub with several buds starting to appear. Looking forward to my shrub looking like the picture and attracting hummers.
