Fast Growing Tropical Plant

Brighten any room with the fast growing, colorful Dieffenbachia plant (aka “Dumb Cane Plant”). Its been rated amongst the top-5 houseplants for many years running – and understandably so.

  • This tropical beauty maintains its color all year

  • It is low maintenance and can take a certain amount of neglect

  • You control its size when you choose its container

Impressive Non-Stop Vitality
Oblong, large broad foliage in a colorful mixture of greens, yellows and whites are forever present. When the trees outside become bare, grey stick figures during the fall and winter months, this interior plant is a pleasing sight.  The Dieffenbachia has the amazing ability to maintain its color and vitality through the cold months and beyond.  You’ll be accompanied by the plush colors of the tropics even when there is snow on the ground.

All the Beauty without the Fuss
There are not a lot of requirements to keep the Dieffenbachia in good shape when growing indoors.  Basic necessities are routine watering and maintaining an environment above 60 degrees. (See planting instructions below.)

Customizable to Suit Your Needs
When you’re looking for an accessory to complete a specific space, the Dieffenbachia can fulfill practically any requirement.  Whether you desire a 2 inch table plant, or a 5 foot floor arrangement, this Dieffenbachia’s growth is determined by the size of its container.  You have the control.  Just pick the pot of your choice and watch it grow to the height you prefer.

Noteworthy Caution (that still doesn’t halt popularity)
Going back as far 1864, the Dieffenbachia has been a familiar plant loved by one generation after the next.  The plant’s full-bodied large leaves have been a custom accent to living rooms, dining rooms and patios.

There is only one caveat – which explains why its nickname is  “Dumb Cane.”

The leaves contain a poison that can cause a temporary inability to speak if ingested.  (“Dumb”)

Also, the plant’s milky sap can irritate the skin. It’s recommended that children and pets be kept far from reach of the plant, but don’t let that stop you from owning this magnificent tropical beauty.  There is a perfect place at your home to reap the beauty of this year round tropical plant.

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane Plant)

Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane Plant) Planting Diretions

During the winter months, the Dieffenbachia enjoys bright light. As for spring and summer, it does well with indirect light / dappled shade.

This plant prefers warm temperatures. Be sure to keep it away from drafty areas and where temps don’t drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Planting in Container / Watering
Make sure there are adequate drain holes in the bottom of the container and water your plant lightly, keeping the soil consistently moist, but not soggy. A good rule of thumb is to put your finger in the soil to check its level of moisture.  There is no need to water your Dieffenbachia until you have a full inch of dryness starting from the top of the soil.

Easy to maintain. It will let you know if it needs attention.  A general rule of thumb is to not let it dry out, but it is quite forgiving if the regime goes a bit astray.  Keep consistent moisture level throughout the year.

Remember to wear gloves when exposure to the sap is possible. Do not come in direct contact with the sap.
