The Perfect, Beautiful and Practical Tree for Your Snowy Landscape
There's simply nothing bad about this tree. The White Spruce is one of the most beautiful and practical evergreens you can add to your landscape. Incredibly tolerant and providing both ornamental and functional value in colder climates, it's the perfect tree for anyone in zones 2-6.
The White Spruce will grow, no matter what. This tree is drought tolerant, cold tolerant and able to grow in nearly every soil condition from dry, polluted soils to wet, acidic soils. The only way to get this tree not to grow is to put it in a hot climate. It will survive freezes, snowstorms and moderate summers.
It has been called the most beautiful tree in existence. The very first European to see this tree, Jacques Cartier in 1535, said the White Spruces were "the finest trees in the world." It's no wonder; this tree grows in a grand, pyramidal shape and is thick with light-green needles.
Add incredible contrast to your snowy landscape. The thick, grand evergreen stands out as a gorgeous contrast to the dead, bare branches of other trees in winter. You will love the distinction this tree brings to your yard.
You can add wonderful contrast in spring and fall too. By placing the White Spruce near your colorful, floral bushes or small trees with fiery autumnal color, you'll get a brilliant contrast all year long.
Plant several in a row for a grand, natural privacy fence. The dense, uniform and tall shape of this tree creates a wonderful noise barrier, privacy fence or windbreak when you plant several in a row. You could even plant them along your driveway to create a stunning entrance.
You'll recognize this tree from the holiday season. Of course, this tree probably looks familiar as it is often used as a Christmas tree. The White Spruce provides more fragrance than the classic Douglas Fir and the needles of the White Spruce do not shed as easily.
Birds love it and deer don't. You'll get plenty of wildlife attracted to this tree, except for deer. Most deer prefer other plants and will only eat from the White Spruce as a last resort, so there's no need to worry that your tree will be damaged.
This tree is a no-brainer for anyone in a cold climate. Whether you want to add stunning visual interest to your property, create a natural snow and wind barrier, or block the views of pesky neighbors, you can't go wrong with the White Spruce. It's "the finest tree in the world," so you can imagine it won't stay in stock very long!

Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: Plant your White Spruce in a spot in your yard that gets at least 6 hours of sun each day. If planting more than 1 tree, be sure to leave at least 15' of space in between. If you are planting several rows of trees to increase windbreak, space your rows at least 20' apart. Choose a place in your yard that has well-drained soil. To plant, spread 2 inches of organic fertilizer on the ground in an area that is two times as large as the root ball. Till the fertilizer into the ground. Be sure to go slightly deeper than the longest root and continue twice as wide as the canopy. Place the tree in the loose soil and press the soil down until the tree's roots are completely covered.
Watering: Water the ground immediately after you plant your tree, but don't oversoak. Your tree will need around 20" of water each year, so you may not need to ever water your tree unless there is a severe drought.
Maintenance: You can add 1 inch of organic fertilizer under the entire tree canopy each spring to encourage faster growth. If you do, you'll need to water the ground after you apply the fertilizer to ensure it reaches the roots. There is really no maintenance with this tree. It is very disease and pest resistant. If you do see infested or diseased branches, you can prune them down to the trunk in the fall.
