A Gorgeous Evergreen Tree That Will Thrive In Your Yard
The Black Hills Spruce is a superior spruce tree. Popular for its dense, pyramidal shape, this tree is a favorite among spruce lovers in zones 2-6. A cousin of the White Spruce, the Black Hills Spruce is often called "ornamentally superior" because of its thick uniform shape.
Poor soil and bad weather is no match for the strength of this tree. Spruces are tolerant trees, but the Black Hills Spruce is the most tolerant of the worst conditions. Of course, every Spruce can stand up to a rough winter, but this tree can survive unusually hot summers far better than other spruces. Tolerant of drought and rain exceeding 10" per year, the Black Hills Spruce can also grow in dry or wet soils.
This is a tree for a lifetime. Sometimes living over 80 years and growing to heights of 60', this majestic tree will stand out in your landscape. For the rest of your life, your family will enjoy the shade the Black Hills Spruce provides in the summer and the ornamental value it provides all year around.
Your snowy, winter landscape will look incredible with a Black Hills Spruce. The dense, blue-green to dark green needles of this tree look beautiful contrasted against pure, white snow. The full, thick branches will bring distinction to your yard as they stand out against the bare branches of your other trees.
This tree looks great as a backdrop for smaller, colorful plants. In the springtime and summer, you can add even more contrast to your yard by placing a row of Black Hills Spruces behind smaller, floral plants. The height, shape and color will all complement your flowers, fruits and bright foliage.
The density of the branches makes this tree a perfect privacy fence. By planting several in a row, you can create a grand and ornamental fence that serves two functions. Not only will you create secure privacy, you'll add beauty and interest to your yard. Welcoming to those guests you invite over and a deterrent for those you don’t, the Black Hills Spruce is an excellent choice for a natural privacy fence.
The Black Hills Spruce is great for holiday decorations. Whether you want to grow your own Christmas tree or simply decorate it in the yard during the holiday season, you'll appreciate the nostalgia and familiarity this tree brings to you during winter. You can even use the pinecones for wreath making or holiday crafts with the kids. You'll find plenty of uses for your Black Hills Spruce.
The Black Hills Spruce becomes more popular each year. As more and more people discover how many great things this tree can bring to their life, this spruce grows in popularity. It’s so easy to care for and serves so many purposes, you're probably beginning to wonder why you don't already have one or a few in your life.

A Pretty Little Tree
The tree arrived in a strong well packed box. The spruce is very healthy. Three months since it's arrival & with record rain in the mid Atlantic it's doing well. Hopefully the weather will be kind to our little conifer.
These three young spruce trees arrived in great condition and ready to plant. I'm very happy with them and will order more in the future.
Quality products astonishing prices!!!
Beautiful healthy live tree!!! This company is the REAL deal!!! My new favorite place to get all my plants trees shrubs. I will highly recommend to all the landscaping companies in this area.
Still early only around 2 feet tall. Looking good. Packaged well for shipping. Look forward to purchasing more in the future.
Arived on time and still wet planted the next day.
Trees were still plenty wet when they arrived. Set them out in the shade for around 12 hours and kept them wet. Trees had all new shoots on and they did not lose them after I planted . The real tale will be next spring when they start another year of growth.
Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: Plant your Black Hills Spuce in a spot in your yard that gets at least 4 hours of sun each day. If planting more than 1 tree, be sure to leave at least 15' of space in between. Choose a place in your yard that has well-drained soil. To plant, spread 2 inches of organic fertilizer on the ground in an area that is two times as large as the root ball. Till the fertilizer into the ground. Be sure to go slightly deeper than the longest root and continue twice as wide as the canopy. Place the tree in the loose soil and press the soil down until the tree's roots are completely covered.
Watering: Water the ground immediately after you plant your tree, but don't oversoak. Your tree will need around 20" of water each year, so you may not need to ever water your tree unless there is a severe drought.
Maintenance: You can add 1 inch of organic fertilizer under the entire tree canopy each spring to encourage faster growth. If you do, you'll need to water the ground after you apply the fertilizer to ensure it reaches the roots. There is really no maintenance with this tree. It is very disease and pest resistant. If you do see infested or diseased branches, you can prune them down to the trunk in the fall.
