Unique Blue-Grey Foliage on a Space Saving Evergreen

The Blue Wonder Spruce is changing the evergreen game by having eye-catching bluish grey foliage all year. Its unique hue stands out in the landscape and compliments other plants.

By only growing to about 6 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, this spruce can fit anywhere. It can be used as hedgerows or privacy screens in areas with limited space without impeding into the neighbor’s yard. They also look great as stand alone trees and accent pieces.

The creative possibilities are endless for the Blue Wonder Spruce, because it even thrives in containers. Use them to frame entryways or to add bursts of color to your deck or patio.

This spruce variety is low maintenance and rarely requires pruning because it has a natural cone, or ‘Christmas tree’, shape, for this reason many people wrap strings of light around their Blue Wonder Spruces every holiday season.

Blue Wonder Spruces are the worry free evergreens because of their tough and resilient nature. They are cold hardy to growing zone 3 so they will tolerate the harsh winters and subzero temperatures in the coldest areas of the nation. By being salt tolerant, they even thrive in Northern areas where salt sprays are commonly used.

Nothing stops the Blue Wonder Spruce! They will thrive in a variety of poor soils even if they’re rocky and sandy and have a high level of drought tolerance. Plus these spruces are deer resistant and will flourish in areas with a high deer population.

Beware of Bare-Root... It may be tempting to purchase a bare-root tree or shrub because it is less expensive than one with a full root system intact. The price is lower on bare-roots because they're cheaper to ship. You're very likely to receive a plant that is damaged because the delicate root system was exposed and the plant is starved of vital nutrients needed to survive. This will cause slower growth for your tree and will be more susceptible to disease.

"Wonder" Ful Tree!
Really pleased with my Wonder Blue Spruce tree which I planted a month ago in a sunny garden bed to the right of my front door entryway. The tree arrived well packaged and in excellent shape, about 18" talk in a 5-6 inch planter pot. I planted it in early April within 5 days of receiving it, while temps were still cool but above freezing at night. It transplanted well and is beginning to put out new budding growth. As it's a dwarf tree, not reaching more than 6' tall, would anticipate it may grow ~ 4 inches over the rest of the year. Would definitely recommend this lovely tree for a smaller garden or landscaped area.

I love my two trees. They work perfectly in my front yard. The packaging was good and it was easy handling the trees. I only wish they were a little larger.

Growing Zone:
looks like a mini tree
I ordered two plants, both looked healthy when they arrived . The disappointment was the size...... 6 to 7 inches tall is not what I consider a tree. It is more like a seedling. They are not at all like the picture in this ad. . Sorry I can't send a photo. I'm a Senior and are not very good with the new technology.
When I called Fast Growing Trees I was told that the size of trees can be from 6 inches to 3 feet. In my mind that is a big difference in size and should not fall under a one size category. I placed both in pots with the hope that they will develop a good root system and will grow so they can be placed in the garden next year.

Beautiful tree with a lot of potential. It looks great placed in the middle of a rock garden by itself. There was fast delivery and it has been an overall great experience. I would recommend this tree to anyone looking for a feature piece in a rock garden or simply in the middle of their lawn. You cannot go wrong.

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Blue Wonder Spruce

Step 1: Dig Your Hole

Select a site with full to partial sun and moist or well drained soil for your Blue Wonder Spruce .

First, dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width.

Then loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can easily break through.

Use your shovel or try dragging the points of a pitch fork along the sides and bottom of the hole.

Planting & Care

Step 2: Place Your Plant

Next, separate the roots of your Blue Wonder Spruce gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole.

The top of the root flare, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the surrounding soil.

Then make sure the plant is exactly vertical in the hole.

To make it just right, use a level.

Step 3: Backfill Your Hole

As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets.

Remove debris like stones and grass and completely break up any dirt clumps.

Water your Blue Wonder Spruce again after the transplant is complete.

Love blue spruce and since this is small, wanted to add to my landscape.

Small blue spruce tree, no maintenance for a small border area. I only wish I could have ordered a larger size tree instead of this smaller size.

I have never seen this type of Blue Spruce style tree before. I love that it only reaches height of 6'. The pictures on the website were very vivid and the background information on the tree helped me to determine if I could grow it my zone. I cannot wait to receive it. If it looks as good as the pictures I will probably be purchasing more!

What is the root system like? Does it grown deep and/or wide?
Jean R on Oct 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They have shallow/surface roots.
how fast do these trees grow?
Kay M on Sep 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They are slow growers of 6-8" per year.
Do you have option to purchase larger wonder blue spruce?
Shawn M on Mar 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The only size we have available in the Blue Wonder Spruce is the 1 to 2 foot size.
Will this tree grow in less than 3 hrs. Morning sun?
Jan J on Jun 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I actually moved mine as it was in a similar location and was just static and not growing. I only moved it a couple of yards, just enough to get out of the shadows and it thrived. It gets morning and evening sun, and now in June its getting around 8 hours direct sun a day. Its also by a sprinkler, getting watered twice a day.
Can this tree make it in a woodland garden?
Jan J on Jun 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We live in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State, and our little Blue Winder Spruce is growing Great! We had a very cold and snowy winter, wet spring and we are very happy with how much it has grown this last year. The first year we saw very little growth and we were not sure if it would make it but this year it really took off. We live in the foot lands of the Mountains next to the National Forest Lands.
In Zone 7, can this be planted in early spring?
Janice A on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. As with any planting, keep watered first few weeks so roots can get established.
How far from the foundation should it be planted to avoid damage?
Amanda S on Mar 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: They do not have an invasive root system that will harm any foundation. They will get 2-3ft wid. I would space them about 1-2ft from a structure.
Would it be ok to order in January in zone 7 and plant it in a container?
Julia E on Dec 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can order and we do ship to Zone 7 in January. It would do much better in the ground but you can keep it in a container for a bit.
Are the estimated width measures correct? Description says height 6 ft and width 2.5 to 3 ft wide. Therefore it would not be conical but more like a column. I would think if conical then it would get to be 5 to 6 ft wide. This would make more sense of the spacing requirement as well. Can someone please verify?
John B on Sep 6, 2018
My tiny blue Wonder Spruce just arrived but the color looks green. Is this normal when the tree is young? It is only about a foot high.
