The First Bright Pink Blooms of Spring

Why Pink Dogwood Trees?

Signaling the start of spring with a wave of bright blooms, the Pink Dogwood Tree is an iconic flowering variety. But unlike other springtime bloomers, you get unbelievable color variation.

This Dogwood’s flowers begin as a light pink and then get slightly deeper as your tree ages...never giving you the same color twice! These blooms are especially remarkable against the Dogwood’s vibrant greenery and broad, upright growth habit. And in autumn, you still get color with red leaves that set your landscape ablaze.

Gray stems with bright red fruit and cinnamon-checkered bark welcome winter and entices graceful wildlife, like songbirds and cardinals. With the low-branching, naturally symmetrical Pink Dogwood, you get four seasons of vibrancy and good looks.

And you get this month-to-month interest hassle-free since this tree thrives in any soil type, tolerates drought, and keeps growing down to -10 degrees. Forget spending hours planting and toiling in your garden – with the Pink Dogwood, you get a professional look with virtually no upkeep.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Choose a planting site for your Dogwood with well-drained soil and full to partial sun (4 to 6 hours of sunlight with some afternoon shade).

Dig a planting hole for your dogwood that is two times the width of your tree’s root ball and just as deep. Place your tree in the planting hole, keeping the top of the root ball even with the ground. Backfill your soil, water to settle the roots, and tamp down the surrounding soil.

Finally, mulch around the base of the tree to conserve soil moisture.

2. Watering: Water your tree weekly or check the surrounding soil for dryness. If your soil is dry about 3 or 4 inches down, water the area.

FGT Tip: Lighter green leaves are a sign of overwatering, while drooping leaves can signal underwatering.

3. Fertilizing: Dogwood Trees do not require feeding, but if you use fertilizer, feed in April or May with any general-purpose fertilizer.

Unfortunately didn't make it

We had high hopes for the 5-6ft version of the pink dogwood when we received it this past April. It was planted in a new flower bed that gets full sun, with a decent layer of compost and potting mix, used Biotone plant starter. Placed ground cover and a layer of mulch around the base of the tree and watered once a day. The tree showed up in amazing condition: many branches all with healthy looking leaves. Noticed only 1 branch had broken in transit. After about 2 weeks, all the leaves had shriveled up and fallen off. Fast-growing trees was quick to respond to our inquiry of concern, and offered some guidance and suggested to wait it out a bit longer. With regular watering and feeding, thankfully, we began to see a few new leaves sprouting out, but only to see them shrivel up and fall off as well. Eventually, the branches became brittle and there was no life left in the plant. While fast-growing trees no longer has the original size we purchased in stock, they have sent us a smaller version of the pink dogwood. We've never had such difficulty with a wide variety of shrubs and flowering plants around our yard. We're most hopeful the smaller version on its way to us now will fare better. Thanks for such great customer service! Pink Dogwood Pink Dogwood Review

Doing well…

We bought this in the 2-3 ft size. It looked pretty crumpled coming out of the box but that was just because the leaves had suffered a bit. We planted it right before a heat wave came through, watered every day then a month later I had new growth and took off all the old sad leaves. Now we have this little baby. Pink Dogwood Review

Still undecided

This was a replacement that I bought. Our previous tree did not make it though the winter. So I ordered a little bigger version. This tree arrived well packaged however the tree itself is very crooked. So I am a littl dissapointed with that. But we will see how the tree does. Pink Dogwood Review

We recommend adding another stake and attaching to the middle of the tree to get it to straighten. Over time, the tree will straighten out as it grows!

My First Pink Dogwood!

Arrived in excellent condition. Will have to wait until next year to see it bloom (I hope). It still looks good, after a week, so hopefully it's adjusting well. I'm excited to have this in our yard. Pink Dogwood Review

Nice Dogwood

I purchased a pink dogwood tree (4-5 ft.) in April 2020. I live in zone 8a and planted the tree in my front yard. I used FGT's organic planting mix and added their root rocket to the soil as well. It's now May 2021, and the pink dogwood is doing great. It had lots of blooms in April (when the photos were taken). It's now May and the blooms are gone, but the tree has nice, green foliage. I've ordered several products from Fast Growing Trees and have never had a bad experience. Pink Dogwood Pink Dogwood Pink Dogwood Review
