Fine Texture and Fresh, Evergreen Foliage
Plush perfection in a classic evergreen package: The Baby Gem™ Boxwood boasts all the benefits of the timeless shrub in a redefined, improved iteration. Introduced in 2010, the Baby Gem is crafted specially for a graceful look, with small leaves and finely-textured foliage for a well-curated appearance.
Even better? Though the Baby Gem’s mature foliage is dark green in hue, new leaves with a cheery yellow tint, nearly-chartreuse, emerge in spring. This sleek shrub’s neat and tidy growth habit is rendered with even more visual depth as a result. Plus, because its foliage reaches the ground, it’s packed tightly with dense drama.
Basically, the Baby Gem offers a manicured appearance without the fuss. Although this boxwood can be pruned and shaped, it grows naturally into a modernized, polished silhouette. Luxe and luxuriant, the Baby Gem is like instant curb appeal, taking flower beds, foundations and beyond to the next level.
Place your Baby Gem Boxwoods along the sides of your yard to create a low-lying, living fence – its rounded shape is second to none when it comes to one-of-a-kind opulence. And whether you use this prime pick alongside flowering varieties or other evergreens, it refines your landscape design scheme. Simply space properly and ensure your shrubs receive adequate day-long sun and voila! Your yard is transformed, no matter if your Baby Gems are container-planted or gorgeous in-ground.
Best of all, strength is synonymous with the Baby Gem. It stands up to deer, heat and drought, effortlessly. And this low-maintenance landscape staple thrives best with adequate care in its first growing season but can be left to grow, and grow well, in the years following. What’s not to love when it comes to this garden “gem”? Order your Baby Gem Boxwood (or two) today!

Planting & Care
A perennial in USDA growing zones 5 through 9, the Baby Gem Boxwood isn’t fussy or finicky but needs adequate care for optimal growth. Follow our checklist of tips and tricks for plush polish in your backyard, side yard and beyond!
A sun-soaked locale is best for the Baby Gem’s healthful growth. Though it tolerates partial shade, particularly during the afternoon hours, it thrives in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
After choosing the proper location for your Boxwood, begin digging your hole – only to the depth of the Baby Gem’s root ball – and avoid a too-deep hole so that your new plant grows properly.
Once you’ve placed the shrub in your hole, ensure you back fill properly. Your shrub should also be planted in an area with well-drained soil to avoid root rot and planted away from downspouts.
We recommend mulching the area surrounding your new Baby Gem. Adding a 3- to 4-inch layer of mulch around your planted shrub will help it conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
During the first year after planting your shrub, a regular watering schedule is essential. Water the Baby Gem deeply and thoroughly each week if the natural rainfall for your area doesn’t supply at least 1 inch of water.
And because the Baby Gem doesn’t like wet foliage, you should direct any sprinkler heads away from its location to keep it dry or use a drip irrigation system for best results.
Perform a soil test in the area where your Baby Gem is or will be planted. If fertilizer is recommended per your soil test results, apply during spring, when new growth emerges. New growth will be easy to spot because fresh leaves are toned with a vibrant shade of light, bright green.
