Amanogawa Flowering Cherry Tree

1. Planting: Choose a location with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree in the center, backfill with native soil and compost, and spread a 3" settled layer of mulch over the soil.  Cherries are shallow rooted and prone to heat stress, making mulch essential for their care and survival.  Water deeply after planting.

2. Watering: During the first 1-3 years of root establishment, ensure the tree receives consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. After establishment, it will need less frequent watering, but be mindful of prolonged dry periods. Cherries are more prone to disease and pest issues if they are water or drought stressed.

3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or damaged branches. Light pruning will help maintain its columnar form and encourage better air circulation.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of blooms.
