Combining beauty with a unique looking and delicious fruit, the Passion Fruit plant climbs quickly along trellises or fencing. The leathery leaves cover the plant in a glossy green that makes a very good screen. Named for its fragrant, purplish flowers said to resemble the crown of thorns, the incredible blooms are so visually appealing, they resemble the ornate images in a kaleidoscope. Add to that the wonder of the fruit itself. As it makes its transition from green to purple, the Passion Fruit's perfectly round form takes on an almost copper hue. When it ripens, the deep purple color enhances the green leaves for a spectacular show for all to admire.

I bought two of these last year in February. Planted them in ground in the Spring. One of was damaged a little and the other was fine. One grew like crazy and the other damaged one took longer and grew steadily but not half as big as the other. In winter, the one that was damaged started to fruit first and the other one started later. Houston winter was not that bad this year. I did cover them and use Christmas lights during the cold/close to freezing nights. I didn't expect to have so many fruits within one year. Currently they are still flowering and fruiting. I hand pollinate them and it seems to be working. You can see what they started as, and what they are producing now in the pictures. I've counted over 100 fruits so far.
