Planting & Care

1. Planting: The Coralburst Crabapple can thrive in any soil, but prefers moderately fertile, well-draining soil. Find a spot in your yard in full sun.

Once you've selected your spot, dig a hole that's large enough to accommodate the root ball, place your tree and fill with soil. Water the surrounding area to settle the roots.

2. Watering: The Coralburst Crabapple is drought-tolerant once established, and only needs watering during extended dry periods after the first season. Check the soil 3 inches deep, and water when dry.

3. Fertilizing: Add a 5-5-5 fertilizer in early spring each year.

4. Pruning: The Coralburst Crabapple has a naturally attractive shape without a lot of pruning. Prune lightly in late winter to remove damaged branches or unwanted growth.

Coralburst Crabapple

The tree arrived in a very secure box. A few tiny branches were broken, nothing to be concerned about. The leaves were still green. The root ball was wrapped in a burlap sack, which also was wrapped in a plastic bag to retain moisture. When planting the tree, after removing the plastic bag, I was unsure if I should remove the burlap sack. When I attempted to remove the sack, the soil started to fall away from the roots. On the FGT website, they mention you can plant the tree with the sack which I did. I rolled it down a little while with the tree in the hole. Other sites stated to remove the sack. So far, my experience with FGT is good. Fast delivery and planting instructions. Only time will tell once the tree takes root and grows.

So far all is good

My only concern is that the tree was very loose in the burlap. So loose that the tree tipped over and came completely out of the burlap bag. I believe I successfully planted, but won't know for sometime.
