The flowering tree with flaming beauty

You will need to put on your sunglasses before gazing at the Poinciana tree's blazing beauty once it erupts with thousands of bright red blooms every spring. The flame colored blooms melt the snow away in order to make way for spring.

The hot blooms are a delight to watch, as they shimmer and dance among the tree branches every time the wind blows. Poinciana trees stand out like a beacon as the brightest trees in the neighborhood, attracting the jealous eyes of neighbors to your yard.

Brightly colored Poinciana blooms pop against lush, long slender leaves that give this tree a tropical look. The exotic subtropical elegance of this tree will create a relaxed feeling of zen that is usually only found in oriental jungles.

Because Poinciana trees are semi-evergreen, if your climate is warm enough then these trees won't lose their leaves, and will provide your yard with abundant green foliage all year.

Poinciana trees are the perfect addition to any landscape with their fast growth rate of up to five feet a year. Once planted they take off in order to provide breath taking beauty among the landscape. Their rapid growth rate and size also makes them the perfect choice for areas that need shade trees fast.

These vigorous growers have an extremely high drought tolerance and grow extremely well in the dry, sandy areas where other flowering trees can't take the heat. Places with arid conditions are often turned into relaxing oases once Poinciana trees are planted to create shade and beauty.

Don't miss your chance to add glamourous Poinciana trees to your landscape. They are selling out fast and we recommend getting yours today, before they're gone.

This little tree almost arrived in perfect condition. I planted it as instructed and it seems healthy and growing. I’m hoping it grows fast.

Nice delivery
The small tree came in relatively good shape for being in FedEx, but I immediately planted it and it's doing well. I consciously planned on planting in the wettest month on Galveston and I think that has helped as well. I'll also send a picture at 30-days and one year. Thanks!

Starting out well
FedEx delivered this 3 days late so it was extra stressed during shipping and had shed almost all its leaves. We planted it as soon as it arrived and in the 3 weeks since it has recovered nicely. Fingers crossed it will thrive in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Looked sad when it came out of the box, but recovered well. This is 3 weeks since it was planted.

Tree arrived in bad condition. All branches broken. Keeping it on patio as protected from weather as possible. It's beginning to sprout green growth that may turn into little branches and lacy leaves. One needs patience and care for plants to see that this one survives.

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Royal Poinciana Tree

Step 1: Dig Your Hole

Select a site with full to partial sun and moist or well drained soil for your Royal Poinciana Tree .

First, dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width.

Then loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can easily break through.

Use your shovel or try dragging the points of a pitch fork along the sides and bottom of the hole.

Planting & Care

Step 2: Place Your Plant

Next, separate the roots of your Royal Poinciana Tree gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole.

The top of the root flare, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the surrounding soil.

Then make sure the plant is exactly vertical in the hole.

To make it just right, use a level.

Step 3: Backfill Your Hole

As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets.

Remove debris like stones and grass and completely break up any dirt clumps.

Water your Royal Poinciana Tree again after the transplant is complete.

The color size of growth when mature and zone 9/11

This tree grows in our valley, but there are only 6 known publicly seen examples. Some may be hidden behind fences and walls. The tree is a sight to behold. It will be in a large raised planter in a focal point again to move it off the ground in our Palm Springs, CA. location so that it less likely to be effected by our occasional 30 degree winter temperatures sheltered by a large building from buildings and falling air temperatures. It will be a major specimen in our yard.

My wife and I both like the shape of the tree but also the flower color and shape.
James K on Mar 7, 2018
This tree's spectacular color will stand out from the green forest behind it. This is being added to the property line along with the Royal Empress previously purchased which really lived up to the "fast growing tree" name. The added benefit of growth of up to five feet a year makes this an ideal tree.
Stacy P on Mar 6, 2018

The resort that I go to in riviera Maya has one of these trees and I have admired it for a very long time. My mother wanted one on one of our trips to Mexico when I was a child . She was mesmerized by its beauty, the same way that I am. It's time to grow my own and enjoy it year round.

Will this tree do well in San Antonio, TX and when is the best time to plant?
Marty R on Aug 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: i think Royal Poinciana will do well in San Antonio TX. i live in Rancho Mirage, California, Zone 9 ( according to this site's chart ). i bought 2 of these trees and planted them last spring. they are doing well, but they lost all of their leaves in December / January. Only yesterday February 14, i noticed signs of awakening from dormancy .. i think the best time to plant them in San Antonio would be April or May .. to make sure they grow strong roots soon after planting and resist their first winter, which is crucial .. i am very much looking forward nurturing these beautiful fast growing trees .. and enjoying their beauty and summer shade .. Best of luck to You and enjoy your trees :-)
Is this tree good for planting next to a deck? Is it messy?
Tracy R on Sep 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Many find that royal poinciana is best for larger landscapes. Your tree could reach a mature height of 40 feet—with a canopy 40 to 60 feet wide. And because it has large surface roots, be sure to plant your poinciana at least 10 feet from pavement, sidewalks, and buildings. Be aware that grass will grow poorly beneath your tree because of the surface roots. It will be messy at times, but it is worth it - from the perspective of beauty. Personally, I would only plant this tree adjacent to a deck if their was soil under the deck, and the desk was raised several inches above the soil, allowing for the mature roots room. Good luck!
