Sweet Juicy Pear is Crisp Like an Apple

The Hosui pear is consistently awarded “best tasting pear” by growers and consumers! They’re large, juicy and round, like an apple, not “pear-shaped.”  Another similarity to apples – they have a crispy texture. While they start out pale green, like your typical pear, they turn a golden, bronze hue as they ripen.

Cold Hardy. Heat Tolerant. Easy to Grow

Hosui Pears are cold hardy and will thrive as far north as Zone 5.  You can grow them in warmer climates with ease - all the way to zone 10, as they’re heat tolerant, and drought resistant!

You’ll get a large harvest your very first summer.

Your Hosui Pear tree has been nurtured by our growers for years.  We don’t ship them until they’re mature and ready to provide fruit.  You can expect them to peak in mid-August.  These pears ripen on the tree and keep up to two months.

More Than a Pear Tree – It’s a Striking Ornamental!

You’ll enjoy watching all the visual transitions your tree goes through!  In early spring, it will produce dainty white flowers on the branches before it starts to leaf.  The glossy, dark green foliage that emerges quickly changes to a coppery bronze color in mid spring. The outstanding fruit comes in mid-late summer, and as autumn approaches, the tree will reward you with bright red leaves

A Healthy Twist

Eating healthy has never tasted so good!  Hosui Pears are only around 50 calories and are a good source of vitamin C as well as fiber.  The Hosiu Pear adds a special zest to salads and are exquisitely paired with all types of cheese.

While the Hosui Pear is one of the best fruits picked straight from the tree – their sweet and tart undertones make them impeccable in pies and deliciously add moisture to baked bread and muffins.

Order your own Hosui Pear tree and you’ll have crisp, juicy, healthy pears the very next summer!

Beautiful At Arrival
This tree arrived in great shape with abundant leaves. I had already prepared the ground for it, and planted it immediately. It seemed to be fine still when freezing temps arrived. The buds look fine, so far. It has gotten down to single digits in Fahrenheit, but not yet near -10F. It is well mulched, so I am hoping for the best. It is between a Luscious and a Red D'Anjou, which I hope it will pollinate. It also is not far from my Shinseiki. Of course I recommend others buy one from Fast Growing Trees.

Great first impression
My tree had very nice foliage and looked very healthy. I have very high expectations that it will do well over the winter especially since it’s arrival coincided with several rains. For that reason I’m grateful that they shipped so promptly. Packaging was great and it arrived in perfect condition.

It was nothing but a bare rooted tree upon arrival with just a tap root on it so I potted it to insure it would get special attention and low and behold the buds blossomed and it is growing really well I will plant it either this Fall or next Spring

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Hosui Asian Pear Tree

Hosui Asian Pear Tree Planting Diretions

Location: The Asian Pear ‘Hosui’ grows best in USDA plant hardiness zones 5 to 9.

Chill Hours: Hosui Asian pear trees require 400-500 chill hours to set fruit.

Pollinators: The Hosui tree is somewhat self-fertile but to produce an adequate crop of fruit the tree requires a pollinator. Try the Bartlett or the 20th Century pear trees for pollination. Plant the trees 25-50 feet apart to ensure pollination.

Planting Instructions: Choose a planting location in full sun for best fruit production. The ideal planting site should have well-draining loamy soil with a pH balance of 6.0 to 7.0. Plant the tree in the early spring to provide it with sufficient time to establish a root system before winter.

Dig a hole twice the size of the tree’s roots and just as deep. Place the tree’s roots into the hole and gently spread them out across the soil’s surface. Fill the hole with an an organic rich topsoil. The tree’s graft bud should sit 2 to 3 inches above the soil’s line after the hole is backfilled in with the topsoil. Tamp the soil down around the tree’s roots to remove any air pockets. Water the tree thoroughly after planting to settle the soil and remove any air pockets.

Irrigation: Irrigate the Asian pear tree when the top 2 to 3 inches of soil feels dry to the touch. Once established, the tree will require 100 gallons of water per week during periods of hot, dry spells. Simply place your garden hose at the base of the tree on a trickle and allow it to stay there for roughly an hour to ensure it irrigates deeply.

Fertilizing: Fertilize the pear tree for the first time one month after planting. Use half  a pound of 10-10-10 fertilizer. Sprinkle around the base at least 16 inches away from the tree’s trunk and water well.

Pruning: The Hosui pear tree should be trained to a central leader system and requires very little pruning. Suckers should be removed as they form.

Is it too late now in late June to plant a Hosui Asian pear tree? And is it okay to plant one without any other pear tree to support polination?
AnnWas on Jun 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is not too late to plant the Hosui Asian Pear Tree. Just make sure you do water it during the heat (morning is recommended) this way you can get the roots established. The Hosui Pear is self fertile but we recommned planting an Olympic Giant Asian Peach, Shinseiki Asian or YUoinashi Asian Peach with it. By adding an additional pollinator will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Why is the fruit hard as a rock?
Willie U on Oct 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My experience with this type of fruit is that it is a bit hard. If it’s uneatably hard then maybe it wasn’t left on the tee long enough or wasn’t getting enough water perhaps. Just my thoughts. They are a very juicy pear though! So delicious.
Can you canned this pear?
Dianne on Sep 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: while I don't do canning, I would imagine you could can any fruit or vegetable.
Can asian pear bear fruit in a pot?
scotty on Apr 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not. I planted mine in the ground, but as long as you have the right soil and drainage, it should be OK. I would probably select a very large pot for ample root growth.
Can this Hosui Asian Pear Tree be grown in a pot outdoors?
