Trautman Juniper

1. Planting: The Trautman Juniper should be planted in a location with well-draining soil where it will receive at least 6 hours of full sun each day.

Dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least three times the width. Organic mulches, such as wood chips or pine needles, also help to better soil structure as they decompose. Position the juniper into the hole and hold it straight. Begin backfilling the hole, tamping down the soil as you fill it to prevent any air pockets from forming.

Finally, water the planting site to completely settle the soil and then mulch around the base.

2. Watering: Water deeply the first year to establish a healthy, resilient root system. Once established, the Trautman Juniper is drought-tolerant and requires minimal care. Maintaining a healthy 3″ thick mulch around the tree can negate the need for watering entirely depending on your soil.

3. Fertilizing: Fertilize established trees every 2-3 years in early spring, choosing the appropriate form (granulated, slow-release, liquid, organic, or synthetic) and following package directions to avoid over-fertilization and potential plant injury.

 4. Pruning: For dead branch removal, cut close to the trunk, while shaping cuts should be made just above a leaf bud at a slight angle.
