A Unique and Adorable Tree for Every Season!
Brighten up your landscape with an adorable version of a Dogwood. The Dwarf Dogwood "Poncho" is a Japanese Dogwood that only grows to 8-10 ft., unlike an American Dogwood, which can reach heights of 25 ft. This adorable dogwood makes the perfect addition to pathways, outdoor seating areas and smaller landscapes.
Don't let the miniature size fool you. The Poncho Dogwood may be small, but it is mighty. In fact, it is resistant to diseases that often plague large Dogwoods. Most Dogwoods perform better in shade, but the Poncho can tolerate full sun exposure and still produce vibrant foliage!
There's no maintenance to keep your Poncho thriving. Forget pruning, constant watering, fertilizing or picking up tons of leaves, the Dwarf Dogwood "Poncho" is one of the easiest trees to care for. After you plant it, just sit back and let it impress you with its fascinating transition through the seasons.
In the spring, expect long-lasting, gorgeous white, green and pink blooms! The actual blooms of the Poncho are small, vibrant green, star-like blossoms. What’s most striking are the large, creamy white bracts that surround the bloom, covering nearly the entire tree! They stick around for a month and then turn into a delicate pink color.
The deep colors of the leaves last through the summer and fall. The forest green, large leaves hang from horizontally arching branches in the summer. When fall arrives, you will watch the strong green transform into elegant, deep purples and reds.
You'll love watching the wildlife devour the berries. In autumn, bright red berries that look like large raspberries fall from the tree. You'll be fascinated as you watch the birds, squirrels and other wildlife devour the sweet treats. There's no need to clean them up. Wildlife love them so much, they won't stay on the ground for very long.
You can even eat the berries… if you get a chance. You'll have fierce competition with all the birds, but if you get the chance, you can eat the berries from the tree. They are safe to eat and many say they taste like apples or apricots. They make a wonderful jam, but they can be eaten raw once they've fallen from the tree.
The Poncho is a showpiece even in the winter. The shape of the bare, horizontal branches in the winter is striking. The bark exfoliates and reveals deep colors of gray and brown. Even in winter, the Dwarf Dogwood "Poncho" is worth showing off!
The Dwarf Dogwood "Poncho" is the perfect, unique and adorable addition to your landscape. Your neighbors haven't seen anything like it and soon enough, they'll be asking you, "What is that gorgeous tree?" Don't waste any more time and make sure you're the first in your neighborhood to add this incredibly unique tree to your yard!
Customer Reviews & Photos
So far so great! This is it's first year in the ground.
This was the very first tree that was planted in our brand new yard and house after 8 long months of waiting. We have had so many comments on how cute it was. This is the perfect size tree to show off our beautiful yard. Since we don’t have a lot of plants in yet I plan on ordering more trees and plants after we get settled. Thank you for great customer service and amazing high quality of trees and plants D. Scuito
Trees arrived well packed and intact healthy looking. I was able to place them in the ground quickly and am still awaiting them to come out of dormancy though the buds appear to be swelling. As I have deer had to fence them as a review turned out to indicate deer like eating them. So, I'm still reviewing their survival and growth, but it's promising thus far.
Great little tree. I was very impressed with the way that it was packaged. I have it in a greenhouse now will set it this up coming spring. Thanks for a great product.Weaver's Nursery
LOVE IT! Small but nicely packaged and in good shape. So far still holding the leaves and waiting to go into winter state.WE were disappointed that it was out of stock when we wanted to order it but it was worth waiting for.
Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: The Dwarf Dogwood "Poncho" is so easy to plant and care for. Be sure to find an open space in your yard with 8ft of spacing. If you don't have a lot of room, plant this tree in partial shade to improve its performance. Plant in well-drained soil with mulch or leaves on top of the roots and base of the tree. Try to avoid placing in a space that gets a lot of reflected heat and light. It is very heat tolerant, but you'll want to give it some shade if you live in zone 9.
Watering: There's no need to water your dogwood unless you are going through a period of drought. Make sure your soil is well drained and don't overwater your Poncho.
Fertilization: There's no need to fertilize the Poncho. It will grow 4-8 inches per year on its own.
Pruning: There's no need to prune the Poncho. You can allow your Poncho to branch towards the ground and take on an elegant silhouette or you can trim the lower branches for a walkway or to show off the bark. The Dwarf Dogwood Poncho looks magnificent when it is lit at night on a walkway.
Pests: The Dwarf Dogwood Poncho is very disease resistant. If you see Aphids, you can spray them with a steady stream of water to get rid of them.
Estimated Shipping Time: Most orders ship immediately, however we are currently experiencing delays and could take up to 11-14 days from date of purchase. As noted on the website, some items are seasonal, and may only ship in spring or fall. Once your order is shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking number.
