Still the best!
Year two! These are thriving in their Oregon home! They're now about 10 feet after some light pruning.

Tulip Poplar Tree
Happy little twig
Arrival: Boxes were fantastic and tree was well-packed. Tree was a single tall stick with very few leaves attached near the center. Day 1: Planting went well, and I left the stake in for supports. As you can see, the shape is a really tall twig. But also top was snipped, and the next available "leaders" are both nearly horizontal branches, so I am a bit concerned on how I plan to train this back into a tree. First 3 months: Removed stake at 3 months, leaving just 1 shoestring to pull it level. The tree lost 100% of all leaves in the first month. BUT - it grew new ones! 4. 4 Month: Tree is happy. Very sparse, but happy. It's meant to be a giant tree, so I'm not too concerned with the current leaf count. Biggest concern is lack of leader that I'll have to train.
