The benefits of the Drop ‘N Grow™ bag…

By growing these trees in burlap bags, the roots grow into the cloth, rather than circling around a pot. This forces these trees to put out thousands of fine hair roots. These roots bring moisture and nutrients into the plants. This means you get a tree that will become established quicker and provide you with superior and faster growth.

These will be the easiest trees you have ever planted! Simply dig your hole, place the Drop 'N Grow™ bag in the center (burlap included) then use excess dirt to fill the hole. That's it!

The Sweetest Cold-Hardy Apple Tree You Can Buy

The Honeygold Apple Tree is great in every way. Don’t confuse this apple with the Honeycrisp, though similar in taste, the Honeygold Apple Tree is a dessert apple that grows perfectly in even the coldest climates.

It can even withstand a Minnesota winter. Known for an arctic chill, not many sweet fruits will grow in the harsh, windy climate. But your Honeygold Apple Tree will stand tall and produce a bountiful harvest, even in the worst winters.

The real treat is the sweetness. Many compare the taste of the Honeygold to that of the Golden Delicious. But the sweet, honey taste without any tartness is what gives this apple its name. You’ll love biting into this healthy dessert right as the temperature drops in early Autumn.

And that sweetness comes guilt-free. Everyone knows apples are healthy, and these low calorie treats are packed with fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and a host of other nutrients to keep you healthy through the winter.

The Honeygold looks gorgeous too! With bright white flowers that have pink accents that bloom in the spring, this apple tree isn't just for growing sweet apples. You’ll love the way the tree stands out in your yard, growing to a height and width of 15-20 ft, it’s the perfect size to accent your landscape in every season.

The big, Autumn harvest will mesmerize you. The Honeygold is quite the producer, and you’ll be thrilled by the huge harvest you get in Autumn. Producing golden yellow fruit with brushes of bronze in late September through October, your apple tree will give you enough fruit for all your friends and family.

Lasting for 3 months, these apples go a long way. Whether you give them away in harvest baskets, or use them in salads, pies and sauces, you’ll have an easy time coming up with plenty of uses for your Honeygold Apples.

Enjoy the Honeygold as an addition to your private orchard.  The Honeygold needs other apple trees to help it pollinate, so plant yours alongside Empire, Fuji, Grannysmith or your favorite cold-hardy variety.

The Honeygold is extremely popular in cold climates.  Because it’s known for being so cold-hardy and able to withstand harsh winters, the Honeygold Apple Tree sells out quickly in cold climates. Buy yours today.

Honeygold Apple Tree Pollination

Honeygold Apple Trees are not self-fertile. You will need to plant another variety to achieve fruiting. Below are the most effective pollinators we have chosen for your area...

Crabapple Trees also make some of the best pollinators for Fruiting Apple Trees. Because they bloom for a long period of time and produce an abundance of pollen that are compatible with most Fruiting Apple Tree varieties.

Too early to give official results
Plant arrived in decent shape, foliage intact, root system looked healthy. Tree is nice and tall, grafted material diameter is a reasonable size, tree shows minimal stress and shock after unbox and planting.

Minor nitpicks:
Graft material is crooked, graft is not exactly dead center and vertical.
If graft was done properly i'd give a 5/5.

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Honeygold Apple Tree

Honeygold Apple Tree Planting Diretions

Planting and Caring Guide

Planting Instructions: Find a place in your yard that has well-drained soil and gets direct sunlight for 6-8 hrs a day. Remove all grass and weeds from a diameter of 3-4 ft. Dig a hole twice the size of the rootball and 2 ft. deep. Place your Honeygold Apple tree in the hole, spreading its roots. Cover back with soil and water deeply to settle roots. Add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and prevent weed growth. You may also stake your tree to encourage upright growth. Place 3-4 wooden stakes, that are 1-2 ft. taller than the tree, around it. Then use garden wire or twine to loosely tie the stakes around the tree.

Watering: Depending on how much rain your area gets, you may need to water your tree every 10 days. If you get less than an inch of rain every 10 days, water the soil around the root line. Never overwater your apple tree.

Fertilization: The best way to fertilize your tree is to take a sample of soil to your local garden center and then amend the ph accordingly. It's best to fertilize in late winter or early spring. As an alternative you can buy commercial fertilizer produced for fruiting trees and follow the instructions.

Pruning: Prune your tree when it is dormant in late winter by removing all dead leaves and branches. It is best to prune the branches in such a way that the entire tree receives an equal amount of light.

Pollination: The Honeygold Apple Tree does not self pollinate, so you must plant it alongside other varieties of apple trees to increase the harvest. The best varieties to plant with are Fuji, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Empire or Macintosh.

Disease Prevention: Always remove dead leaves, fallen apples and plant debris from the ground below the tree after harvest. During the summer, spray the tree every other week with fungicide.

Harvesting: Your tree will bear fruit in the 2nd or 3rd year, but it is possible that it may bear fruit in its 1st year. Do not use color to determine if your apples are ready to harvest. Instead, look at the color of the ground, feel the firmness of the fruit, look for apples that have dropped and see it they are easy to pluck from the tree. Honeygold typically harvest in late September through early October, but these dates vary slightly depending on your climate and tree.

Cold tolerant and need another apple tree for the Honeycrisp. It also sounded really good like a cross between golden delicious and a Honeycrisp.

what is the best time of the year to plant apple trees?
steve p on Aug 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The stock answer is "early spring or late fall" but I've planted trees during the middle of summer with no problems. Just let them acclimate at your house in a sheltered spot for three or four days (I keep them under my 2nd level deck where they get morning sun and afternoon shade), plant and water well.
