1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Select a location that receives full sun to partial afternoon shade and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Position the tree so the root collar is level with the soil surface, then backfill gently and water thoroughly. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch extending 3 feet around the tree, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment period. Water regularly, particularly during dry spells, as this tree is intolerant of drought and prefers a hydrated environment.

3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed, but feel free to remove any dead or broken branches to maintain its health. A light shaping can be done to enhance its natural form but avoid heavy cutting.

4. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer such as Espoma Garden Food® 10-10-10 to support healthy growth. Follow manufacturer instructions for application rates based on the tree’s size.
