Planting & Care
Picking the right spot is important for the health of your pepper. Here are some tips to follow:
- If you planted peppers, tomatoes or eggplants the year before, do not plant your Flavorburst Peppers in the same spot.
- Choose a spot that gets full sun.
- If you live in a cool climate, make sure the ground temperature reaches 60 F before planting.
- You can plant in a container if your ground soil is not ideal.
- Amend the soil with organic matter.
- Plant in a hole twice as wide, but just as deep as the root.
- Plant next to onions for pest control and next to peas for pH balance.
- Mulch around the base for moisture retention, even temperatures, and weed control.
Watering: Water frequently, making sure the plant gets 2 inches of water each week. Climates that get frequent rain may not need to water after the roots are established.
Fertilizing: Use a 1-2-2 ratio fertilizer 6 weeks after planting.
Pest Control: Planting near onions is your best chance to control aphids, which is one of the only pests to affect sweet peppers. If you see any pests, they can easily be controlled with dust or an organic solution.
Harvesting: Never pull your pepper off the stem. Instead, use sterile shears to cut the pepper off. If the stem gets damaged during cutting, use shears to make a clean cut. Flavorburst peppers are ready to harvest when they grow to size (4 inches).
Usage and Storing: Flavorburst peppers are wonderful raw or cooked, and make a great addition to salads, meals, or simply eaten as a snack. Store your peppers in the fridge for up to 3-4 weeks or chop them and freeze them up to a year.
Estimated Shipping Time: Most orders ship immediately. As noted on the website, some items are seasonal, and may only ship in spring or fall. Once your order is shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking number.
