Planting Instructions: First, choose a sunny or lightly shaded location to plant your Red Sunset® Maple Tree. Though they prefer rich, damp soil, they also thrive in dry regions and grow in a wide variety of soil types.

To plant your Red Sunset® Maple, dig a hole deep enough to cover its root ball. After placing your plant, tamp down the soil while backfilling to avoid air pockets in the area. Water your tree to settle the soil that surrounds the roots, and ensure it is planted in an open space – plenty of room away from buildings and walls is necessary. Do not plant it closer than 20 feet from your home.

Watering: The need for moisture can be a limitation in growing Red Sunset® Maple Trees, but it is much more drought-resistant than other varieties. Simply water it during dry spells for the first few years. Since it has no significant pest or disease issues, it’s highly low-maintenance and does not require mulching or fertilizer.

Pruning: When you’re ready to prune your tree, do so in late winter before its buds break and during early summer after the tree is in full leaf display. Prune away dead or broken branches back to the nearest healthy bud or branch. In addition to pruning at these times, ensure you remove these throughout the year as you see them.
