Bold Red Berries to Brighten Up Your Winter Garden

The Victory Pyracantha isn’t just a showstopper in winter. This firethorn may be known for its gorgeous berries, but you’ll love the way this upright grower looks in your garden all throughout the year. Offering unique ornamental value through every season, the Victory firethorn will consistently add interest wherever you plant it.

Arching branches make this hedge standout. Unlike other hedges, the Victory Pyracantha features arching branches, giving it an undeniably interesting look. Adding to its ornamental features, the unique shape will catch your eye every time your look at your garden.

Little flowers pop in spring. This evergreen will look beautiful in your yard in spring when small, white flowers appear. Contrasted against the dark green leaves, the spring flowers standout when they make their appearance.

The main attraction of the Victory firethorn is the bold red berries. Imagine your garden in the middle of winter surrounded by bare branches and maybe some snow. Now picture an upright hedge featuring large, deep red berries popping out against dark oval leaves. Appearing in autumn and lasting through winter, that stunning image is exactly what makes this plant so popular.

Your not the only one who’ll love the berries. While the berries taste bitter to humans, songbirds enjoy them. You’ll love seeing bright, beautiful birds visiting your garden in the fall and winter.

All of that ornamental value comes without any hassle. The Victory Pyracantha is incredibly easy to take care of. This low maintenance plant is drought resistance and requires very little upkeep. A little winter pruning and your plant will continue to impress for years to come.

Make this hedge whatever you want it to be. Victory firethorns are very trainable, so whether you want to plant several to create a privacy hedge, plant one to feature as a wall climber, or even create beautiful espalier and topiary shapes, this versatile hedge will be whatever you want it to be.

With all of this in one package, our supply won’t last long. With so much ornamental value, versatility and easy maintenance, the Victory Pyracantha sells quickly. Purchase your plants today to make sure you don’t miss your chance to feature this showstopper in your garden.

Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Victory Pyracantha

Victory Pyracantha Planting Diretions

Plant your Victory Firethorn in a hole that is wide, but not deep. The plant should be level with the surrounding soil. Make sure to loosen the potting soil and roots around the root ball once you’ve placed it in the hole. Clay or sandy soils should be amended with organic matter. After planting, add 1-3 inches thick of mulch, but avoid getting too close to the stem. Water deeply to settle the roots.

Watering: During the establishment period, or the first couple of years, water your plant frequently. Depending on your rainfall, water every couple days. After your plant is established, you will not need to water unless you experience a heavy drought, at which time you may need to water every 10 days.

Fertilization: In late winter, add 2-3 oz per sq. yd of balanced general purpose fertilizer along with 2-3 of mulch.

Pruning: When pruning, wear thick gloves as this plant is very thorny. Prune off any diseases or dead branches, but keep as much 2 year old wood as possible. If your shrub is free standing, prune in mid-spring.

Training: If you’d like to train the shape of your plant, prune as directed above in mid-spring. Additionally, you may also shorten shoots as desired. In late summer, you can also trim all the sideshoots just short of the beery clusters. You can tie the new leafy shoots into wires to shape the new growth into whatever shape you like.

Hedging: To keep your Victory as a hedge, prune to shape 3 times spring and summer, keeping as many berries as possible.

Does this bush have a fairly long thorn on it?
Jeanne M on Apr 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I measured the thorns on mine. They are 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. They hurt if you hit them. But I LOVE my Victory Pyracantha bushes! They are beautiful! White flowers cover them in the spring, and beautiful red/orange berries in the fall and winter.
