Avoid High-Maintenance Evergreens

When seeking to select fast growing trees for yard planting, avoid the following Evergreens: Australian Pine, high-maintenance hollies, White Pine, and any of the Hemlocks.

The Australian Pine is a non-native species brought here for its ability to thrive in drought-like conditions as a choice for fast growing trees. However, it s very non-native status and overly invasive nature has gotten it banned from Florida.

Unless you are blessed with the best of soil conditions – or plan to modify what you do have – skip choosing the Holly for fast growing trees. Only intense, proper maintenance will produce a full canopy.

Again, there is too much labor involved to successfully grow the White Pine although it is one of the fast growing trees. However, without great labor efforts it can become quite disease susceptible.

Any choice of Hemlocks for fast growing trees looks like a good choice because they have a reputation for being hardy. However, without the correct amount of effort if a Hemlock does contract a disease, it usually spells doom for this plant. In the north, Hemlocks require total protection from any bitter winter wind that will burn the foliage every time.

Choose the Thuja Green Giant as a correct selection for yard privacy screens since it is one of the best fast growing trees that are very adaptable to all kinds of soil and weather conditions. Additionally, you won’t need to labor at shearing for shape; this fast growing evergreen tree is naturally perfect. This makes it a good candidate for even a specimen tree for curb appeal without your assistance.
