Follow these easy steps to plant your Hinoki 'Sunburst' Cypress Tree

Step 1 - Dig Your Hole
When placing your Hinoki 'Sunburst' Cypress tree, please note that the tree grows best in full to partial sun. Dig your hole at least twice the diameter of the root system and slightly shallower than the root ball. To allow the roots to easily penetrate the walls of the hole, use your shovel or the points of a pitch fork to scrape the soil on the bottom and sides of the hole.

Step 2 - Place Your Tree
Next, gently separate the roots with your fingers or a blunt garden tool and guide them downward in the hole. Adjust the tree so that the best side of your Hinoki 'Sunburst' Cypress tree is where you want it. Make sure the tree is straight up in the hole (a level is very helpful here). The top of the root ball, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the neighboring soil.
Step 3 – Backfill Your Hole
Apply water as you backfill the hole with soil to remove any air pockets. Water your Hinoki 'Sunburst' Cypress well after the transplant is complete. It is recommended that you mulch around the tree to a depth of 2"-3" keeping a small circle around the tree trunk that is not covered with mulch. This will help keep weed growth down and moisture in.
