Planting a Pink Flowering Dogwood Tree is Simple!

Step 1 - Dig the Hole
When choosing the planting site for your Pink Flowering Dogwood, keep in mind they prefer full to partial sun and well drained but moist soil that is mildly acid. Dig the hole at least twice the diameter of the root system, but no deeper than the root ball. To allow the roots to easily penetrate the sides of the hole, use your shovel or other garden tool to scrape the soil on the sides of the hole. It’s also a good idea to keep the dirt in a wheel barrow since you’ll need it later.
Step 2 - Place the Tree
Set your Pink Flowering Dogwood tree in the planting hole and spread out the roots. If there is a preferred side to your tree, now is the time to turn it so you can see it. Then make sure the tree is straight up and down in the hole. The top of the root ball should be about an inch above the surrounding soil.
Step 3 – Backfill the Hole
Next, backfill the hole with soil. Water the soil as you go to remove any air pockets. After the transplant is complete, water the tree again well. Finally, mulch around the tree to a depth of 2"-3" keeping a small circle around the tree trunk that is uncovered. This will keep the moisture in and improve the acidity of the soil.
