Step 1 - Dig the Hole
Leyland Cypress Trees desire full to partial sun and most any soil conditions. If you’re planting a hedge, form a visual guide by placing plastic stakes six feet apart and looping twine around them. Plant the evergreens where the stakes are and they will grow together to make a solid hedge. The holes will need to be just about twice the diameter of the root system and about the same depth. To allow the roots to easily penetrate the walls of the hole, roughen-up the soil on the sides and bottom. |

Step 2 - Place the Tree
Set the Leyland Cypress in the planting hole and spread out the roots. The top of the root ball, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the bordering soil. Then make sure the tree is straight up and down in the hole. You might want to use a level for precision. |

Step 3 – Backfill the Hole Apply water as you backfill the hole with soil to remove air pockets. Water well again after the transplant is complete. It is recommended that you mulch around your Leyland Cypress tree to a depth of 2"-3" keeping a small circle around the tree trunk that is not covered with mulch. Adding mulch will slow the growth of weeds and grass and help keep in moisture. |
