Planting a Ginkgo Tree is Hassle-free!

Step 1 - Dig Your Hole
A Ginkgo tree will reach 30 – 40 feet wide so make sure your planting site is far enough away from your house. Additionally, the Ginkgo tree will tolerate just about any soil but prefers a sunny spot. Dig your hole slightly shallower than the root ball and about twice the span of the root system. Use your shovel or other garden tool to scrape the soil on the walls of the planting hole so the roots can more easily penetrate as they grow.
Step 2 - Place Your Tree
Next, use your fingers to gently separate the roots and guide them downward in the hole. The top of the root ball should be about an inch above the bordering soil. Adjust the tree so that the best side of your Ginkgo tree is where you can see it. Make sure the tree is straight up and down in the hole. Try using a level for accuracy.
Step 3 – Backfill Your Hole
Now, backfill the hole in stages. Add water as you go to remove any air pockets. Water your Ginkgo again after the transplant is complete. To keep the soil moist it is recommended that you mulch around the tree. Use enough mulch to reach a depth of 2"-3" but keep a small circle around the tree trunk that is left uncovered with mulch.
