Step 1 - Dig the Hole
When choosing the planting site for your Emerald Green Thuja trees, keep in mind they prefer full to partial sun. For planting a hedge, you can place plastic stakes three feet apart and loop twine around them to form a visual guide. Plant the evergreens where the stakes are and they will grow together to make a solid hedge. Dig each hole twice the diameter of the root system and the about the same depth as the root ball. It is also good to slightly loosen the soil on the walls and bottom of the planting hole so the roots can easily penetrate the soil as they spread out. |

Step 2 - Place the Tree
Set your Emerald Green Thuja trees in the planting hole and spread out the roots. The tree should be straight up and down in the hole. Make sure the tree has firm support from below to keep it from settling. The top of the root ball, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the neighboring soil. |

Step 3 – Backfill the Hole Apply water as you backfill the hole with soil to remove air pockets. Water well again after the transplant is complete. A good sign that you've gotten the shrub wet enough is that air bubbles stop coming up through the water. It is recommended that you mulch around the tree to a depth of 2"-3" keeping a small circle around the tree trunk that is not covered with mulch. Adding mulch to Emerald Green Thujas will help to retain the moisture. |
