Step 1 - Dig Your Hole Keep in mind when selecting your planting site that Cryptomeria Radicans Evergreen trees grow best in full to partial sun. Dig your hole nearly as deep as the root ball and about twice the width of the root system. You might want to put the soil in a wheel barrow since you’ll be using it for backfill later. It is also suggested that you roughen-up the soil on the sides of the planting hole with your shovel. This will allow the roots to easily penetrate the soil as they grow. |

Step 2 - Place Your Tree
Next, gently separate the roots with your fingers and guide them downward in the hole. Make sure the tree is vertical in the hole (you may want to use a level). The top of the root ball should be about an inch above the bordering soil. Turn the tree so that the best side of your Cryptomeria Radicans Evergreen tree is where you want it. |

Step 3 – Backfill Your Hole In stages, fill the hole back in with soil and add water to remove air pockets. Break up any dirt clumps and remove rocks and weeds. Water the tree again after you’re finished backfilling. You should mulch your Cryptomeria Radicans Evergreen tree to a depth of 2"-3" and up to but not touching the trunk. This will help keep the soil moist and slow the growth of weeds and grass. |
