It's Easy to Plant your Autumn Flowering Cherry Tree
Select a site with full to partial sun for your Autumn Flowering Cherry. First, dig a hole slightly shallower and at least twice the size of the root ball. Also, it's a good idea to put the soil in a wheel barrow since you'll be using it for backfill later. Then loosen the soil on the walls of the planting hole so the roots can easily penetrate the soil.
Next, separate the roots gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole. Make sure the best side of your Autumn Flowering Cherry tree is facing where you can see it. The root ball should be about an inch above the surrounding soil. Then make sure the tree is exactly vertical in the hole. To make it exact, use a level.
As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets. Water well again after the transplant is complete. To help retain some of that moisture, it's recommended that you place mulch around the tree to a depth of 2"-3" up to but not touching the trunk. Mulches such as wood chips or pine needles also help to better soil structure as they decompose.
