Zone 5 needs winter protection.
Did grow well in zone 4b for years with 5-6 feet of snow to protect in winter. Just moved us to zone 5a. Just stunning display from row of plants in front of fence near driveway which each got 5'x4' feet. Then a winter without snow cover and all but one died. Last plant came back poorly from crown. Died second winter. Can get fungal damage if sprinklers hit leaves. Wonderful plant. If zone 5 mulch in winter.
