Planting & Care

It's Easy to Plant & Care for Your Meyer Lemon Tree - Gift

Meyer Lemon Tree - Gift Planting Diretions Your Meyer Lemon Tree will love to be planted in an area that receives full sunlight, or at least six hours of sunlight a day. Make sure that the area isn't too windy and the temperatures consistently stay above 50 degrees. If you keep your Meyer Lemon Tree indoors place it by a big window that receives a lot of sunlight.

Meyer Lemons Trees enjoy sandy, well drained, moist soil. Do not over water your tree, once your soil is dry two inches about two inches down it's time to give your tree a deep watering. Give your tree water until you notice water draining from the bottom of its pot.

An organic or citrus fertilizer will make your tree happy. In the early Spring and late fall apply fertilizer to your tree every four to six weeks.

Meyer Lemon Trees bloom twice a year and produce fruit year around. Once the flowers drop, fruit will fill in. Leave your lemons on your tree until then turn a shade of yellow that's close to the color of an egg yolk.

Your Lemons will stay green for many months, and will not ripen until their color changes.

My dad just gave me one of these trees for my birthday today and I was wondering what size of a pot would be best for planting it in? It is a 3-4 ft tree. Thank you, Logan.

BEST ANSWER: I planted mine in a pot that is 2-3" bigger all around than the pot it came in and about 5 inches deeper. Hope that helps!
Can I grow a Meyer lemon tree in a container even though it is not a dwarf?
Pat B on Mar 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes definitely , my tree is doing very well in its container. I have had numerous flowers that are an awesome aroma in any room. To my delight i have 8 lemons growing now, and watch everyday for yellow color to start. oh and i live 30 miles from canadian border in zone 4 very long cold winters. Good luck
Got my Lemon Tree in the summer of 2014, It was outside on my patio all summer and did great. I bought it into the house in the late fall as I live in Connecticut and put it in a nice sunny spot. I heat with wood so I spritzed the leaves periodically to keep some moisture. Very slowly through the winter the leave all fell off but the tree kept flowering. I put it outside again this summer and it flowered but no leaves have grown back. It is green so I know it is not dead. I have fertilized it, What should I do now?
Jennifer M on Dec 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The dry air I would think is the major culprit, if possible a steam bath on occasion may help. Meantime the plant is slowly healing and with encouragement will likely come back. I would also order another to recover lost production time and pay closer attention to feeding it especially when being moved. You could also create a more humid environment indoors by covering with clear plastic after watering and spritzing. If your nose is dry your plant is certainly parched also.
