This is a carefree tree that is smaller in size, so it saves you the trouble of climbing a tall ladder to reach your fruit. It’s the perfect addition to your apple orchard and will bring you a generous harvest of apples worth baking with or eating straight off the tree. Jonagold easily pairs up with other apple trees for pollination purposes.

The Jonagold Apple Tree is a controlled cross of New York’s old and very well-respected Jonathan Apple with the popular and versatile Golden Delicious. Jonagold is a widely-grown American apple variety with a rich fragrant flavor that’s the perfect mix of sweet goodness and lovely sharpness.

Delicate pale pink to white flowers emerge mid to late spring, fluffy and faintly aromatic amidst a bed of lush bright green foliage. Depending upon your region, you can expect to be harvesting your crop around late October, just in time to kick off the holiday season in proper fashion.

Jonagold Apples store well, a quality it inherits from the Golden Delicious, so you can pick your ripe apples over several weeks for immediate use, or store them in a cool spot for up to three months for later use.

Jonagolds are tasty when eaten fresh off the tree and provide an excellent source of vitamins and fiber. Of course there are many other scrumptious alternatives as well, such as baking them in apple crisps, sauces, strudel and pies. Fresh-pressed apple juice and cider is also a delicious option, and as you can see the culinary uses are practically endless.

In order to set fruit, your Jonagold Apple tree will require two different pollination partners nearby. Examples of compatible selections would be our Fuji and our Red Delicious. This mini orchard of three varieties will provide you with a splendid fall harvest of fruit in your own backyard without the worry of pesticides in store bought or imported apples.

In the fall, Jonagold’s leaves turn brilliant shades of orange, red and/or yellow. This is a tree that not only bears delicious and healthy snacks but provides three seasons of interest.

Maturing to heights of about 10-15 feet with a similar spread, this apple tree will fit nicely into almost any size yard. As an added bonus with its fairly compact size, fruit picking becomes safe and trouble-free when the need for a hazardous trip up the tall ladder is eliminated.

It's Easy to Plant your Jonagold Apple Tree
	Step 1 - Dig Your Hole Select a site with full to partial sun and moist or well drained soil for your Jonagold Apple Tree. If you're planting a hedge, mark out a visual guide by placing stakes five to six feet apart and looping string around them. Plant the trees where the stakes are and they'll grow together to make a dense privacy screen. First, dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width. Then loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can easily break through. Use your shovel or try dragging the points of a pitch fork along the sides and bottom of the hole.
	Step 2 - Place Your Tree Next, separate the roots of your Jonagold Apple Tree gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole. The top of the root flare, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the surrounding soil. Then make sure the tree is exactly vertical in the hole. To make it just right, use a level.
	Step 3 - Backfill Your Hole As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets. Remove debris like stones and grass and completely break up any dirt clumps. Water your Jonagold Apple Tree again after the transplant is complete. To help retain some of that moisture, it's recommended that you place mulch around each tree to a depth of 2"-3" up to but not touching the trunk. Organic mulches such as wood chips or pine needles also help to better soil structure as they decompose.
