Shade Trees

It is recommended that your shade trees be removed from its packaging as soon as you receive it. If possible, the tree should be planted immediately. However, if your region is currently experiencing excessive temperatures or severe drought, the tree can be potted and kept in the shade until these weather extremes pass. We suggest planting your tree at least six weeks before your area’s first frost. But with proper care and attention, your tree will prosper despite what time of year it is planted.

Digging Your Hole

Upon selecting and preparing your planting location, dig a planting hole that will have plenty of room for the roots of your tree. As a general rule, this hole should be twice the height and width of your trees root system.

Spread the roots evenly in the planting hole, and enfold them with dirt to avoid air pockets. Backfill the hole with dirt or soil, making sure that the roots are covered well, as watering will cause the soil to compress slightly. Pack soil firmly.

Take special care in watering your tree, according to your location and weather patterns.

Do not allow weeds and/or grass to grow close to your tree (within three feet) during the first growing season. Pull these weeds, and then mulch around your tree.

It is very important that your tree receive the best care possible during its first growing season. Pay close attention to your tree and carefully follow the instructions provided.
