It is suggested that you unpack your Leyland Cypress as soon as it arrives. If it is possible, plant your tree at once. If your region is experiencing abnormally high temperatures or a severe drought, we recommend potting your Cypress and letting it sit in the shade until the extreme weather is to pass.

The ideal time to plant your tree is six weeks or more before the first frost of the season. Though with proper care and consideration, your tree can be planted at anytime of the year and will flourish.

Once you decide on and prepare the planting site, dig a planting hole that will contain your tree’s entire root system easily. This hole should be roughly twice the height and width of the roots.

Spread the roots out and surround them with dirt to prohibit air pockets. Backfill the hole with soil or dirt taking care that the roots are completely covered, as the soil will compact slightly when you water your tree. Pack the soil firmly.

Ensure that your tree receives the appropriate amount of watering for your location and weather conditions.

Do not allow weeds and/or grass to grow any closer than three feet from your Cypress. Pull these weeds immediately, and mulch your tree.

During the first growing season, it is more important than ever that you provide care and attention to your tree. Follow all instructions meticulously.
