Fruit Trees It is suggested that your fruit trees be unpacked and planted immediately upon receipt. If this isn’t possible due to weather conditions (such as a prolonged drought), your tree should be potted and placed in a shaded area of your yard. Ideally, your tree should be planted six weeks before the first frost. However, a tree can planted at any time of the year with proper care and attention. Select and prepare a location for your tree, and then dig a hole that will accommodate the root system of your fruit tree. Generally, this hole should be two times the height and width of the root ball. Spread the roots evenly and surround with dirt to prohibit air pockets. Backfill the hole with dirt of soil, making sure that the roots are covered entirely, as the soil may compact a bit when the tree is watered. Firmly pack the soil. Make sure that your tree is watered in accordance with your location and weather patterns. Weeds and/or grass should not be permitted to grow close to your fruit tree. Pull these initially, and then use mulch around your tree. It is imperative the special care and attention be paid to your tree during it’s first growing season. Follow carefully all instructions given. |
