Evergreen Trees We recommend unpacking your evergreen trees immediately upon receipt. If possible, plant your tree right away. If you are experiencing extreme heat or a severe drought, we recommend potting your tree and placing it in the shade until the extreme weather lets up. Ideally, you will want to plant your tree six weeks before your first frost. However, with proper care and attention, your tree can be planted at any time of the year and still thrive. Planting Site After choosing and preparing the planting site, dig a hole to accommodate the root system of your tree. Generally, this hole should be two times the height and width of the roots. Spread the roots out uniformly in the planting hole, and surround with dirt to prevent air pockets. When you backfill the hole, make sure that the roots are completely covered, as the soil with compact a bit with watering. Pack the soil firmly around the tree. Maintenance Be sure to keep your tree well watered, in accordance with your location and weather patterns. Prevent weeds and/or grass from growing closer than three feet near your tree for at least the first growing season. Initially you can pull the weeds, and then use mulch around your tree. The care of your Evergreen trees during the first growing season is imperative. Pay close attention to your tree and follow all instructions carefully. |
