Dogwood Trees We highly recommend unpacking and planting your Dogwood Trees immediately upon its arrival. If this is not possible due to extreme weather conditions, such as a severe drought, it is best to pot the tree and set in a shady area of your yard until the weather conditions pass. Ideally, your Dogwood should be planted at least six weeks before the first frost. However, with proper attention and care, a tree can be planted at any time of year and do perfectly well. Choose and prepare a location for your new tree. Dig a planting hole that will provide for your tree’s entire root system. Generally, this hole should be twice the height and width of your tree’s roots. Spread the roots and surround them with dirt to prevent air pockets. Fill the hole back in with dirt of soil, making sure that the roots are covered entirely, as soil will condense slightly when your tree is watered. Firmly pack the soil around the base of the tree. Take care that your tree received the proper amount of water for your location and weather conditions. Grass and/or weeds should not be permitted to grow close to your Dogwood. You best thing to do is to pull them and then mulch your tree. It is especially important during the first growing season that your tree is provided much care and attention. Follow all instructions carefully |
