Pam's Picks
This Hazelnut tree is still quite rare in the USA, but it is worth going after since it is small in stature and delivers the largest and tastiest Hazelnuts available. Halls is extremely hardy and easy to grow, and the nuts are rich in cholesterol lowering vitamins. Delivers pretty golden flowers in spring, and a huge harvest of nuts during the fall.
The Halls Giant Hazelnut is a common variety of hazel, but it is rarely found privately grown in the United States. At long last the wait is over, and you can now acquire your Halls Hazelnut without having to order it from the UK. We are one of only a handful of growers/retailers in the US that offer this gem.

Halls Giant produces the largest, tastiest nuts of all the Hazelnut varieties; they are also quite attractive nuts with pretty glossy rust-brown shells.

Interestingly, Halls Hazenut can be in tree form or you can sculpt it down do a shrub with proper pruning. This makes it a terrific choice if you want the benefits of a nut bearing tree, but are tight for space.

This tree is social, so for best pollination results plant a few of them or even another variety such as the American or Butler Hazelnut.

This tree is hardy and grows in almost any soil, but like most plants it prefers a well-drained fertile soil. Halls will produce in light shade, but perform best in full sun.

A lovely addition to any garden, Halls Hazelnut exhibits buttery yellow flowers. These cylindrical clusters show up in mid-March, and make a pleasing contrast to the bright green foliage that buds later in spring.

Around mid-fall when the leaves and clusters begin to turn brown, it’s time to gather your big nut bounty. At this point, the nuts practically fall right out of the burrs and make the harvest nearly effortless.

Leave your shucked hazels on newspaper to dry out for a few days prior to roasting. Then it’s as easy as spreading the nuts evenly in a single layer on a shallow baking sheet, and roasting in a 350° oven for about 30 minutes.

This nut is chock full of proteins, vitamins and minerals essential in lowering bad cholesterol levels and fighting cancer. Snack on them by the handful or rough chop them for a crunchy addition to your next batch of brownies or cookies.

Halls Hazelnut is also resistant to pests such as nut gall mite which bothers other nut trees.

Now that you can finally get your hands on a Halls Hazelnut on this side of the pond, order yours today before we’re completely sold out.

It's Easy to Plant your Halls Hazelnut Tree
Step 1 - Dig Your Hole
Select a site with full to partial sun and moist or well drained soil for your Halls Hazelnut Tree. If you're planting a hedge, mark out a visual guide by placing stakes five to six feet apart and looping string around them. Plant the trees where the stakes are and they'll grow together to make a dense privacy screen. First, dig each hole so that it is just shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width. Then loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can easily break through. Use your shovel or try dragging the points of a pitch fork along the sides and bottom of the hole.
Step 2 - Place Your Tree
Next, separate the roots of your Halls Hazelnut Tree gently with your fingers and position them downward in the hole. The top of the root flare, where the roots end and the trunk begins, should be about an inch above the surrounding soil. Then make sure the tree is exactly vertical in the hole. To make it just right, use a level.
Step 3 - Backfill Your Hole
As you backfill the hole, apply water to remove air pockets. Remove debris like stones and grass and completely break up any dirt clumps. Water your Halls Hazelnut Tree again after the transplant is complete. To help retain some of that moisture, it's recommended that you place mulch around each tree to a depth of 2"-3" up to but not touching the trunk. Organic mulches such as wood chips or pine needles also help to better soil structure as they decompose.
